The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

(Succession of Prof. Dr. Dr. Rainer Schmelzeisen) in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Regional Plastic Surgery from October, 1st 2025. The future holder of this position will represent the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in research and teaching. She/he will be the medical director of the Department at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg The future post holder is expected to demonstrate outstanding clinical and scientific achievements at an international level, have leadership experience as well as management skills and be able to represent the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The candidate should have a focus on head and neck tumour and craniofacial surgery and should be familiar with innovative, interdisciplinary and oncological therapies including plastic-functional rehabilitation. Academic teaching is to be subject-specific in the dentistry and medicine degree programmes. Interdisciplinary collaborations, active participation in research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine, in particular in the fields of oncology, immunology and infectiology, and participation in research alliances of the University of Freiburg are expected. Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree in medicine and dentistry, a very good dissertation, an excellent publication record and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected. The position is tenured according to § 50 para 1 LHG. Reference is made to the regulations of § 49 para 2a LHG.
