The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universit盲t Erlangen-N眉rnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Full Professor of Clinical Nuclear Medicine
at the Department of Nuclear Medicine. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The professor will also be appointed as Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. We are looking for an individual who has several years of management experience in both clinical and scientific areas and both the team and goal-oriented leadership skills required to manage a medical department. We expect the successful candidate to work closely with the neighboring disciplines of diagnostic imaging and other departments at Universit盲tsklinikum Erlangen (including rheumatology, endocrinology, oncology, and cardiology), both in research and clinical fields (hybrid imaging and therapy methods).
Imaging and medical technology are an important research focus area at the Faculty of Medicine and other faculties of the university, and these fields have been significantly strengthened by strategic appointments in recent years. We wish to continue this positive development by appointing a professor with an outstanding research profile, who has obtained suitable third-party funding and internationally recognized scientific achievements.
Furthermore, the professor will be expected to collaborate with the research networks (including NCT WERA and DZI), collaborative research centers and research training groups at the Faculty of Medicine, FAU, and other clinical departments of Uniklinikum Erlangen.
The professor鈥檚 teaching obligation is based on the teaching obligation regulations for Bavarian universities (LUFV). Degree programs taught at the Faculty of Medicine include Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine (BSc and MSc), Medical Process Management, and Medical Engineering and Integrated Immunology in partnership with other faculties. The professor will be expected to participate in teaching these degree programs.
Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). In addition to excellent international achievements in research and teaching, candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of Nuclear Medicine.
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership, the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU鈥檚 strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.
In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. FAU is a family-friendly employer and responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications, teaching concept and research concept [max. 2 pages each], catalog of diagnostic and nuclear medicine therapies, list of third-party funding, copies of certificates and degrees) online at by August 24, 2025, addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
