The Faculty of Medicine of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invites applications for a
W3 Professorship in Anatomy and Cell Biology
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:You will represent the entire spectrum of anatomy and cell biology in research and teaching.
The ideal candidate is internationally recognized with a research focus in the field of modern morphological and cell biological basic research and the pathogenesis of diseases. You contribute to strengthening the research focus of the JLU-s Faculty of Medicine. You should actively participate in existing research networks of the faculty and independently acquire externally funded projects, in particular DFG-funded collaborative projects (e.g. research groups, collaborative research centers/transregios). In addition, further national and international research networking is expected. Your collaboration in the focus area “Cardiopulmonary system (Heart/Lungs)-, the area of potential “Infections, inflammations and active ingredients- as well as in the faculty-s accent areas “Reproduction-, “Repair and regeneration-, and „Experimental and applied neuroscience“ is expected. This includes your compatibility with existing collaborative research projects, particularly, the Cluster of Excellence “Cardio-Pulmonary Institute- (CPI), the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), and the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) as well as further collaborative research centers, research training groups and LOEWE Centres of the Hessian state government, which the faculty is involved in.
In this context, you are also expected to actively engage in the transfer and communication of scientifically and societally relevant research outcomes to the broader public.
The establishment and maintenance of international cooperation, your willingness to collaborate in the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL) as well as your participation in the structured doctoral programme (JLU TRAINEE) and in the clinician scientist programme (JLU CAREER) are expected.
You are also expected to contribute to the development of new study programmes at JLU and its Faculty of Medicine.
Your teaching commitment of 8 semester hours per week covers teaching tasks of anatomy (macroscopical and microscopial anatomy, embryology and organ development) as well as the subject biology for medical students in the form of lectures, seminars and practical classes. In addition, a teaching export to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management is expected. In the future, teaching export to the JLU-s Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science is also desired.
The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects.
Requirements:Prerequisites for the position include a successfully completed university education in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or in the field of biomedical sciences as well as a thematically relevant outstanding doctorate and excellent additional academic achievements in the field of modern morphological and cell biological research (proven e.g. by a habilitation in the field of anatomy and cell biology or by relevant, internationally recognized publications).
You should have leadership experience and experience in managing research projects. Success in independent acquisition (and management) of externally funded projects (preferably DFG, BMBF) is a prerequisite.
In addition, the proof of a special pedagogical aptitude is required as a qualification to represent the specialist field in academic teaching and doctoral training with great commitment and in its full scope.
You should also have international experience, e.g. in the form of stays abroad, and international collaborations, and be internationally recognized in your field of research.
In particular, you have experience in curricular teaching in the field of anatomy and cell biology. The application must therefore demonstrate the qualifications and previous experience in curricular teaching for the subject of anatomy and cell biology in its full scope.
The integration of gender aspects in research and teaching is explicitly desired.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
