W2 Professorship in Palliative Medicine
as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG), the non-tariff terms of employment apply, and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.Duties:
The ideal candidate will possess the capacity to effectively lead an interdisciplinary team. A high degree of communication skills, a willingness to cooperate, and organizational skills are expected.
Your responsibilities will include the effective representation of topics in palliative care and palliative psychology in research, teaching and patient care.
The focus of your research activities is patient-oriented outpatient palliative care (e.g., by evaluating the quality of care), intersectoral networking (e.g., through the care of patients (m/f/d) in nursing homes or bereavement care) as well as the professionalisation and integration of psychological and psychosocial care.
It is expected that you carry out your work in close coordination with the extant local and regional structures of palliative care.
All tasks associated with the professorship in patient care are regulated by the UKGM, especially by the coordinating management of a specialized outpatient clinic within the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic II.
During your employment at JLU, you are expected to achieve further success in the independent acquisition of external funding. You should actively participate in existing research networks, independently acquire research projects (preferably from the DFG, the BMBF, and/or the EU) and participate in further national and international networks.
In teaching, you are expected to contribute to the teaching of palliative medicine within the medicine degree program. This encompasses, in particular, active engagement in the scheduled curricular lectures and seminars, along with the associated electives.
The integration of gender aspects in research, teaching and in patient care is explicitly desired.
The universities of Giessen and Marburg and the University of Applied Sciences in Central Hessen are working together in a research alliance (Research Campus of Central Hessen) as a structured cooperation based on coordinated priorities. It is expected that the applicant shows cooperativeness to university and department-wide collaborative projects. In particular, cross university/hospital patient-oriented clinical research and the participation in joint clinical studies is expected.
Requirements:
Prerequisites for the position include a successfully completed university education in medicine and/or psychology, the ability to scientific work for the fulfilment of the tasks according to § 67 Para. 1 HessHG, usually proven by an outstanding doctorate, and excellent additional academic achievements (e.g., habilitation or relevant, internationally recognized publications).
You should have clinical expertise, demonstrated by many years of experience, particularly within multi-professional palliative care teams. Further training or a specialist qualification in the field of palliative medicine, such as the DKG certificate in psycho-oncology, or a relevant medical ethics qualification from the Academy for Ethics in Medicine, e.g., ethics counselling in healthcare, is also a prerequisite.
You should have an excellent academic track record in the field of palliative medicine, be internationally recognized and have a research profile documented by relevant publications. In addition, the proof of a special pedagogical aptitude is required as a qualification to represent the specialist field of palliative care and palliative psychology in academic teaching in its full scope. Furthermore, experience in cross-professional training programs for postgraduate or certified specialists in palliative care is an essential prerequisite.
You should demonstrate success in the independent acquisition of external funding.
