University Professorship (W3) “AI in Biomedical Engineering”


We are looking for someone who can represent the inter­disciplinary area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in biomedical engineering through their research, academic edu­cation, and innovation. Applicants should have a high reputation in one or several of the following fields:
  • Research and development of new AI-based health techno­logies.
  • Ubiquitous health techno­logies, e.g., smart body area networks, wearables, smart implants, and smart mobile devices.
  • Intelligent ambient systems for monitoring risk-relevant parameters in everyday life.
  • Machine learning methods for the evaluation of multi­modal vital data.
  • Use of AI for prevention, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabi­litation.
  • AI for robotics in biomedical engineering.
  • New methodological, technical, and regulatory approaches to the use of AI in digital health techno­logies.
In teaching, the focus is on actively shaping and further developing both the Bachelor’s program in “Medizintechnik und Informationstechnik” and the Master's program in “Biomedical Engineering”. In addition, active parti­cipation in existing and new degree programs offered by the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Informa­tion Technology well as in related degree programs of other KIT Depart­ments is expected.

The selected candidate will execute university tasks with a teaching obligation of 9 hours per week per semester.

The KIT Health Technologies Center (KITHealthTech ()), the HIDSS4Health Graduate School, and the collaboration with Karlsruhe Municipal Hospital offer an attractive environ­ment for inter­disciplinary research, as well as application- and practiceoriented innovations for future healthcare.

Applicants should have an inter­nationally out­standing scientific reputation, excellent didactic skills, and manage­ment experience. In addition, work experience in industry or experience gained in colla­boration with industry, acquisition of third-party funding, and the initiation of startups is desired.

Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).

Apart from fulfilling general civil service require­ments, candidates should have completed their university studies and possess peda­gogical aptitude, didactic skills, as well as scientific quali­fication as evidenced by the quality of their doctorate, habilitation, or equivalent achieve­ments.
