The English-language journal will be published in Diamond Open Access.

As Managing Editor, you will be responsible for the development and establishment of the new international journal. In close cooperation with the publisher, the Editorial Board and the Advisory Board, you will help shape the new publication format and its content orientation, organise and supervise the publication process, and handle correspondence with board members, reviewers and authors. • Management of the peer review process and publication procedures
  • Proofreading, editing and structuring of articles
  • Ensuring compliance with scientific publication standards and open access principles (Diamond Open Access)
  • Implementation and maintenance of modern publication technologies (JATS-XML, OJS)
  • Development and implementation of measures to increase the international visibility of the journal

Your requirements profile:

  • Doctorate in an archaeological or ancient studies discipline
  • Advanced experience in scientific work and publishing (e.g. as an author, reviewer, etc.), ideally in journal management
  • Outstanding communication and organisational skills
  • English as a native language or comparable language competence at the highest level
  • Knowledge of the international publishing landscape, the publishing industry and submission systems

Desirable:

  • Very good written and spoken German
  • Knowledge of publication-relevant application programmes (Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign)
  • Confident handling of scientific publication infrastructures (e.g. specialised databases) and publication standards (e.g. metadata standards, open science standards)
  • Knowledge of XML, JATS-XML and experience with Open Journal Systems (OJS)

We offer:

  • Remuneration up to pay group 13 TV-L if the personal and collective agreement requirements are met.
  • Social benefits in accordance with the regulations of the public sector, including an additional company pension scheme (VBL) and an annual special payment in accordance with the TV-L regulations, a 50% subsidy for the “Deutschlandticket”.
  • Flexible working hours with up to five full or ten half flexitime days per month and generous arrangements for mobile working.
  • An attractive workplace in our new building on the southern edge of Mainz's old town with excellent public transport connections and parking spaces in the immediate vicinity (for a fee).
  • Numerous opportunities for further education and training.
  • A working environment that actively promotes equal opportunities and equality for all employees. Family friendliness and the compatibility of family and career are important to us. We are certified according to audit berufundfamilie.

In addition to job security and family friendliness, we offer you an attractive, diverse working environment, reliable structures and a varied job.
