The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg invites applications for the
Full Professorship (W3) for
to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship is based in the Department of Internal
Medicine I (Specialities: Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation, Medical Director:
Prof. Dr. Duyster) and is closely connected to the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF).
The professorship represents the field of Participation and Self-help in Medicine in research,
teaching, and practice, with the goal of developing and promoting innovative concepts for the
active involvement of patients and collaboration with self-help groups. This includes researching
and advancing approaches to patient participation, particularly in oncology, as well as integrating
self-help into patient-centered care. Furthermore, interdisciplinary collaborations between
research, clinical care, and self-help organizations will be strengthened, education and training
on participation and self-help will be expanded, and initiatives for quality assurance and clinical
trials within the framework of the CCCF will be supported.
In healthcare, the focus is on the implementation of participatory approaches such as shared
decision-making and the promotion of patient autonomy. The professorship supports the integration
of self-help services into clinical practice and evaluates their use as part of a holistic
approach to care. Additionally, the professorship contributes to the development of healthcare
processes by establishing and training patient representatives as part of the care structure,
ensuring that patient feedback is systematically incorporated into quality assurance.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree in medicine, psychology,
or comparable degree programs, pedagogical suitability, and a very good dissertation. An
excellent publication record is required.
For clinical work, a corresponding board certification (Facharztanerkennung) is required. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
