The Faculty of Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for an
Associate Professor of Catalytic Materials (salary group W2)
at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in the field. Duties include representing the subject appropriately in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have excellent credentials in research in the area of synthesis, characterization, or processing of catalytic materials and will have relevant project experience. Their research should be focused on the development and understanding of innovative material concepts for heterogenous catalysis. The pursued concepts ought to have high potential for combining activity, selectivity, robustness, and processability at the highest level, thereby paving the way for new technological innovations aimed at boosting the sustainability of chemical production. We would welcome a focus on the spectroscopic examination of catalytic materials or in the area of alternative energy input in catalytic materials.
The professor will be expected to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration within the department and with other disciplines at the University, with extramural research institutions and with industry. They will be involved in teaching in the degree programs Chemical and Biological Engineering, Advanced Materials and Processes, Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies, and Clean Energy Processes at the department.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor).
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
